How do I get a copper pipe to stop leaking so I can solder it?
I am trying to replace a hose bib in a back yard. I have turned off the main water valve and drained all the faucets and flushed all the toilets, etc, however I can not get this pipe to stop leaking. It has a slow drip but it’s enough that it won’t allow me to solder it. Please help!

When you are trying to solder a pipe that wont stop dripping there is a trick for this. You can stuff bread into the pipe to hold back the water to keep it dry while you are soldering. Then when you are finished and turn the water back on, the bread will dissolve and blow out.

LikeDislikeJust make sure you use white bread! I used rye one time and found rye seeds in all of the screens in the faucets! No fun!

LikeDislikeBread is great and they also sell some stuff at home depot to put in the pipe to stop the flow so you can solder. ir you can just use the new pop on fittings called sharkbites. Some old time plumbers dont like them but they work and are acceptable for plumbing repairs at least in my area
